Submissions welcome by e-mail to citizenYVR@gmail.com. Will add to these lists below – by date followed by links to each party’s website. We encourage people to advertise events via the main hashtag for the election (#vanelxn22). Event details could change, so we urge you to check the source/links for any you wish to attend. Note: CHW will list any civic party free/public election candidate event if organizers send us the info. If you are aware of any other event lists, please do let us know. (Below is updated to 11:00 on 11-Oct-2022).

This is a list of events/opportunities to meet and hear mayoral and council candidates, in order of date. Completed events are moved to the bottom.

Event: Vancouver Municipal Election All-Candidates Debate (at UBC, University of British Columbia)
When & Where: Tues. Oct 11th 5:30 – 7:30pm, AMS Great Hall (in the AMS Nest) 6133 University Blvd.

Hear mayoral and city council candidates debate one another on key issues ahead of the municipal election! Electoral Area A. We are not sure of who all will attend, but TEAM for a Livable Vancouver’s mayoral candidate Colleen Hardwick and Council candidate Stephen Roberts have announced they will attend. Will other mayoral hopefuls? We hope one subject will include why UBC has not built enough of its own student housing and has been focusing on condo developments.

Event: All-Candidates Forum: Park Board Commissioners
When & Where: Wed. Oct. 12th 7 to 9 pm, VanDusen Botanical Garden (Great Hall)
Host: Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association. Public forum for candidates for park board. Registration required.



Event: Residents for Community Control on City Development (RCCCD) Mayoral Debate
When & Where: Fri, Sept 19, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1440 West 12th Ave
Note: Five leading mayoral candidates were invited, but only Fred Harding and Colleen Hardwick showed up. Kennedy Stewart, Ken Sim, and Mark Marissen were no-shows.

Event: Coalition of Vancouver Neighbourhoods (CVN) Mayoral Debate
When & Where, Mon. Sept 19. Britannnia Community Centre.
Cancelled: CVN was compelled to cancel this event due to the failure of Kennedy Stewart (last-day rejection) and Ken Sim (no response) to attend. Press release (link): Failure by Vancouver mayoral candidates Kennedy Stewart and Ken Sim (ABC) to participate leads CVN to cancel debate September 19.

Event:2022 False Creek Residents Association Mayoral Candidates Debate
When & Where: Wed. Sept 21st 7-9pm (Doors open at 6:30pm) – Creekside Community Center.
Footnote: Candidate Kennedy Stewart did not show up.

Event: All-Candidates for Park Board Meeting at Mount Pleasant Community Centre
When & Where: Tonight Fri Sept 23rd, 6: 30 to 9 pm, Mount Pleasant Community Centre, 1 Kingsway
Half-hour “Meet & Greet” where Park Board Candidates and potential voters can talk informally, then candidate intros, a couple moderated questions from sponsor (Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association), then open mic where public can pose questions.

Event:  Glacier Media 2022 Mayoral Candidates Debate (Glacier Media – Business in Vancouver, Vancouver Is Awesome)

Event: Britannia Community Centre & Grandview Woodland Area Council (GWAC) City Council Candidates Public Forum
When & Where: Mon. Sept 26th 7 pm – Britannia Community Centre Gym D (1661 Napier Street)
Each municipal party will have a table where the public will have the opportunity to discuss issues with a variety of candidates in a world cafe style facilitated conversation, over several rounds. Candidates: Param Niijar and Sean Nardi (TEAM), Cinnamon Bhayani and Ken Charko (NPA), Ian Cromwell (OneCity), Pete Fry and Michael Wiebe (Green Party), Jean Swanson and Breen Ouellette (COPE), Lesli Boldt and Stuart Mackinnon (Vision).

When & Where: Tues. Sept 27, 6 to 8 pm – West End Community Centre, 870 Denman.
“Speed Dating” style. Candidates circulate group to group to field questions from individual voters. Topic changes every 15 minutes and candidate switches move to next group. Link here.

Event: University Women’s Club of Vancouver, Election Forum – Meet the women Candidates for Mayor and City Council (eight parties)

Open to members and the public. No charge. Registration not required. Women’s club, promotes women in politics.

Round-robin format, not a debate. Everyone running for office gets a chance to take the stage and share views on local issues/election topics. Plus music/theatre/fun.

World cafe style rotating conversation. Community participants can move between tables over several rounds to meet candidates/discuss. Each candidate gets 2 minutes to respond: How would you describe role of the community centre in Vancouver and, if elected to Park Board, how would you support and strengthen community centres’ role? Then questions from audience. The VPU has submitted questions to municipal candidates, and plans to endorse candidates after the Oct 3rd meeting. “We all have seen a rise in crime in the past few years. The Vancouver Police Union is leading a campaign to bring awareness to this critical issue and help inform voters on issues of crime and safety.” See Vancouver Sun article here.
