“Make Planet Earth Great Again” singer songwriter David Rovics world tour starts in VANCOUVER, March 17, 2017 (Friday)

Some people want to make specific countries “great again.” But maybe that’s being too closed-minded and selfish. Here is someone who wants to make the planet Earth great again. Portland-based singer songwriter David Rovics creates and performs music with messages for our times, about housing, the environment, social justice, and more. This month he launches a world tour–and it starts right here, in Vancouver. Have a look at the lyrics and video below.

I’m setting out to make the planet Earth great again (or at least to sing about it), and I need your help.  I know everybody is overwhelmed with information and lots of other things, but if you can possibly find a few minutes (or more) to help spread the word about my upcoming tour, especially gigs near you, that would be really great.  If enough of you do this, it will make a huge difference, and allow me to keep on doing this for a living, quite simply.

There are now really nice tour posters.  You can print one out, fill in the local gig details, and plaster the town with them.  The details of the tour are at the end of this email.  (You can also find them on my blog, and if you look for me on Songkick or Bandsintown, as well as at www.davidrovics.com and on the free David Rovics mobile app.)

On the tour page on my blog there are also Facebook Event pages for some of the gigs.  I’d especially like to mention the gig in Berkeley, California on April 2nd, because there is no one in particular actually organizing it other than me, and so far only 5 people say they’re coming…  If you know someone in the San Francisco Bay Area, please tell them about the gig!

Next week I head to Canada, and at the end of the month, California.  Before I go to Europe in April I’ll be recording a new album — titled Punk Baroque.  I’m more or less working within the budget you folks receiving this email have been generous enough to provide me with.  But not quite — I’m actually fairly significantly over budget.  So if you click on that link and make a donation, this happy leftwing musician in Portland, Oregon will be even happier…

Lastly, I’m going to write a book for PM Press on how to survive as a troubadour in the age of crowdfunding.  If you or anyone you know is an indie musician, I’d appreciate it if you’d take this survey, and/or share it with any musicians you know.

Make the Planet Earth Great Again, by David Rovics

We could tackle the economy first – get rid of all the billionaires
Set the system up so that instead of hoarding, people share
Make housing, food, and health care basic human rights
Around the world, for everyone is how we’d set our sights
If we could get to that point I could confidently say that then
We could make the planet Earth great again

With human rights around the world, there’d be no refugees
No safeguarding your homeland from terrorists overseas
No need for a border wall, no jobs to protect
With a global basic income established, it’s pretty simple and direct
Free trade, fair trade, same damn thing – we get to that point, then
We can make the planet Earth great again

We could take on other issues, like the survival of our race
By which I mean the bipeds on this floating rock in space
The most invasive species anywhere around
The one that keeps on burning everything that can be found
The one that will get it together in the nick of time and then
Make the planet Earth great again

We can stop spending money on antiquated technology
Such as tanks and missiles and most other things military
We can use those vast resources to make us all safe and sound
Windmills in the air, coal and oil in the ground
We can be the envy of the rest of the galaxy when
We make the planet Earth great again
