Will holding 4/20 pro-marijuana rally at Sunset Beach set a precedent for future events?

Cannabis Day

Here’s a little food for thought: Will Sunset Beach become the new go-to venue for future pro-cannabis events?

The City of Vancouver and the organizers of the annual 4/20 rally agreed to relocate the event from the Vancouver Art Gallery to Sunset Beach earlier this year without the knowledge of Park Board. Robson Square North is currently undergoing renovations. In addition to the April 20th “4/20” rally, there is also a yearly ‘Cannabis Day’ celebration on July 1st. Will the upcoming Cannabis Day event also be held at Sunset Beach? Will future 4/20 rallies be held in Sunset Beach now that a precedent has been set by the City of Vancouver?

  1. This is a festival promoted by entrepreneurs exploiting marginalized, usually impotent feeling youth and other drop outs. City of Vancouver with separate functions and authorities covering parks, school and council is being outwitted by this $ driven, exploitive group.
The political issue of decriminalization has almost been won but not thanks to the activities of these ‘promoters’.
This has me seriously reconsidering separate council, parks and schools boards in our governance model here in Vancouver.
