Council and Park Board Preview March 7-9: Pop-up Park (5th & Pine), Vacant Housing Units Report, 871 Beatty Street Liquor Licence and more

temporary park 5th and pineVancouver City Council has meetings scheduled for March 8th and 9th while Park Board will meet on March 7, 2016.

A temporary pop-up park at the southeast corner of Pine Street and West 5th Avenue is the first item on the Park Board agenda for Monday night. This pop-up park would be in place until a larger future park is developed for the block (between 2019 and 2022). The Park Board will also review a Special Events Calendar for 2016 and look at a Zero Waste – Diversions Stations Motion on Notice.

A much anticipated Vancouver Housing Units report will be presented at the Regular Council meeting on Tuesday, March 8th. The City of Vancouver received electricity usage data from BC Hydro and this information will likely be incorporated into the report. The rezoning for a 26-storey tower at 1575 West Georgia will be considered under ‘unfinished business’, changes to the First Shaughnessy Conservation Area will also be debated.

The Public Hearing for March 8, 2016 will consider a Heritage Revitalization Agreement (HRA) for 22 East 5th Avenue. The proposal will examine protecting and designating a heritage façade at the former Cemco Electrical Manufacturing Company Factory. In addition to the façade preservation, a 6-storey, 83.8 feet (25.6m) high structure is proposed (an increase from the maximum 60′ height). A total of 2.6 FSR is requested for General Office uses (4,461m2) while 0.5 FSR (842m2) would be for Industrial or Manufacturing uses. Changes to bylaws related to Urban Farming will also be reviewed at the Public Hearing.

The Council Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 9th will review a new primary liquor licence for 871 Beatty Street (Neighbourhood Pub). A report on 2016 Property Taxation: Targeted Land Assessment Average will also be reviewed.
