Park Board Feb 22 (Mon) Preview: Killarney Seniors Centre Contract, NEFC Creekside Advisory Group, Ice rinks

Killarney Community CentreThe agenda for the Park Board meeting scheduled for Monday, February 22nd includes the contract for the long-awaited Killarney Seniors Centre. This will be the first Park Board Seniors Centre in East Vancouver.

The capital budget for the project will be $7.5 million, while the estimated construction cost over two years is up to $5.9 million. The new facility would contain two levels and a total of 10,000 square feet (929 m2) of space as an extension of the Killarney Community Centre. The report recommends that the work be carried out by Ventana Construction Corporation in partnership with Taylor-Kurtz Architecture + Design.

A new Northeast False Creek Park Design Advisory Group will be considered by Park Board to assist with planning the future park and open spaces once that are to be in place after the viaducts are removed. The terms of reference document for this advisory group will also be reviewed. Related to the viaduct removal, a Creekside Park Delivery motion on notice by Commissioner Kirby-Yung will be examined.

An Ice Rink Strategy Motion on Notice by Commissioner Shum will request staff to report back by the Fall of 2016 on ice rink capacity in Vancouver. The motion notes that there are only eight ice rinks in the City under Park Board jurisdiction, and only three of these ice rinks operate year round (Britannia, Hillcrest and Sunset).
