UDP Review August 12: UBC Robson Square entrances, 201 West 2nd Avenue and 155 Water Street

UBC entrances Robson Square
Two new entrances are proposed for the UBC downtown campus on Robson Square. Glass atrium entrances on both the south plaza and north plaza are included in an updated design for 800 Robson Street.

201 W 2nd 1768 CookThe Urban Design Panel will review the glass atrium entrances to the downtown UBC campus on Wednesday, August 12th at 4pm as the first agenda item.

An updated design for a 17-storey, 274 unit development at 201 West 2nd Avenue will also be reviewed at the meeting. This project by Concord Pacific was originally rezoned in 2006 with 190 residential dwelling units. The CD-1 for the property was only enacted on September 30, 2014. It appears that a paltry $2,308,916 CAC was negotiated by the City in exchange for the rezoning (from M-2 Industrial). A total of 249 parking spaces are also part of the proposed design. This site is located across from the Marguerite Ford building (between West 2nd and 1st Avenue, Cook and Columbia). The project is now listed under the new address of 1768 Cook Street.

The final item on the UDP agenda is 155 Water Street. A 7-storey office building is proposed with retail and restaurant uses at grade. Currently 155 Water Street is listed as a Class B Protected Heritage building (J.M. Harper Warehouse) in the Vancouver Heritage Register.
