Little Italy designation for Commercial Drive passed at Council

Vancouver City Council voted unanimously to support Councillor Melissa De Genova’s motion to designate a section of Commercial Drive as Little Italy. However, the motion was amended in order to include it in the context of the overall Grandview Woodland Community Plan. There were concerns raised by speakers that this change might “bog down” the designation and that it would be “lost in the shuffle” by the City.

The designation of a section of Kingsway in 2011 as “Little Saigon” was introduced by Councillor Jang; it was passed and implemented by Council on short notice. The discussion and debate on Little Italy from the June 24, 2015 Council Committee meeting is available online as archived video (Part I and Part II).
