A second Open House has been scheduled to show the proposed cohousing project at 1729 – 1735 East 33rd Avenue. The revised plans will be shown on Thursday, March 7th between 4:30 and 7:30 pm at the Kensington Community Centre (5175 Dumfries Street – near East 37th Ave & Knight). The project has been scheduled for Public Hearing on March 12th, 6pm.
The updated proposal has a total of 31 units, a FSR of 1.11, and a maximum height of 12.1 metres. Further information on this project is available on the city’s website here. The proponent Vancouver Cohousing also has a detailed website with information on the individuals behind this project and on the design development, along with a petition.
For reference, there is a YouTube video of the Cohousing lecture by Architect Charles Durrett that took place at Heritage Hall November 19, 2012. The Vancouver Courier article Vancouver cohousing complex draws concern Cedar cottage cohousing seeking rezoning (Feb 28, 2013) contains arguments both in favour and against the proposal (see article here). The website Eye on Norquay has also published an article on cohousing along with a letter from a resident who resides near the site and opposes the project.
