Downtown Eastside community organizer Kim Hearty has let us know that Vancouverites are invited to communicate to Vision Vancouver supporters at a fundraiser on Tuesday evening. (CityHallWatch notes that shark fin soup appears to be on the restaurant’s menu.) Original message follows.
Don’t like the way developers run City Hall? Wanna tell them in person, without paying $150 for a ticket to Vision’s fundraiser this Tuesday? Against pro-developer, neoliberal policies that inflate housing prices and eat into every worker’s wages? Want a word with the union bureaucrats who fund the ruling party?
Come picket Vision’s fundraiser in the DTES, Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish Territories, 5:45pm Tuesday October 23rd. We’ll be gathering outside the Chinatown Plaza mall at 180 Keefer St, West of Main. Vision’s fundraiser is at the Floata Seafood restaurant inside, on the 3rd floor. Please tell all your friends!
… because gentrifiers shouldn’t be left to feast in the DTES without having to cross a picket. Under Vision’s rule, we’ve experienced almost four years of gentrification, green-washing, tax shifts, increased policing against poor and dissenting people, sham public consultations… With council set to vote on the densest gentrification bomb yet at 955 East Hastings on October 30th (Wall Corp sealed the deal during the election with an $80,901.40 donation to Vision – pennies to the profit they stand to make, but what’s a little help between friends!), we must create every opportunity to disrupt and expose this ruthless profiteering.
