Urban Design Panel today Sept 26 – 2220 Kingsway, Cambie & 12th, 68 Smithe, 4320 Slocan

Four proposals will be evaluated by the Urban Design Panel on September 26th, starting at 4pm at City Hall. The three 14-storey tower and podium proposal at 2220 Kingsway is up for review within a week of the Public Open House on Sept 20th. This is slightly more time than the one day given between the the UDP review and the Open House on Sept 25th for the 8-storey development across from City Hall at 2806-2850 Cambie Street & 454 West 12th Avenue. Can any of the comments given by the public at the Open Houses for either of these proposals be reasonably incorporated into the designs examined by the UDP? Or are the Open Houses merely a formality for ‘public input’ that has no influence on the outcome of the final design?

The project at 68 Smithe Street is an 18-storey mixed-use building. It was formerly known as site ‘Area 5B East’ or 10 Terry Fox Way during the Casino rezoning public hearings. Council has approved and enacted the CD-1 rezoning for the site with conditions in November 2011. The Development Permit Board plans to review this proposal on November 5th, 2012 at 3pm.

The rezoning proposal at 4320 Slocan Street is a mixed STIR rental with ground floor commercial proposal on the north side of the Skytrain tracks near East 28th Avenue. The full agenda for the UDP meeting can be downloaded here.
