Urban Design Panel Aug 15 – 1862 Barclay, 3939 Knight, 707 E 43rd, 1588 East Hastings

The Urban Design Panel is scheduled to meet at 4pm on Wednesday August 15th. Four items will be discussed at the meeting, starting with 1862 Barclay Street (6 storey infill), followed by 4 storey mixed commercial/residential proposals at 3939 Knight Street, 707 E 43rd Avenue and 1588 E. Hastings Street. As of this writing (10:30am Tues Aug 14th), the city’s new $3 million website does not yet contain this information; the most recent agenda for the UDP is from July 18th. City Hall has still failed to respond to CityHallWatch inquiries about its intentions with the new City website, and at present does not indicate if it intends to restore UDP agendas and meeting minutes to the revamped website. We only obtained the August 15 agenda by direct inquiry to the UDP secretary. Is this how the City expects things to work from now on?

    Re: 1862 Barclay development application DE415926. City should not consider the current application as it does not comply with either of City Halls mandates to provide affordable housing and maintain green space. Further, lane ways should not be viewed only as vehicle access and parking. People’s home face directly on to the lanes. Please see Mole Hill as a future model for West End lanes and require that 1862 Barclay scale back their plan. The new plan would maintain green space, reduce vehicle traffic and guarantee additional affordable housing.
